Programs with a Fee

Virginia Museum of Natural History
In the fall and spring, our outdoor school program welcomes guest experts who present supplemental indoor presentations for a small fee.
The Virginia Museum of Natural History (VMNH) provides slide presentations tailored to the specific ages of the school children attending. These presentations are only offered on Monday mornings. They are limited in size by the capacity of the education building and each program lasts 40-45 minutes.
In the fall VMNH offers “Trees of Virginia,” an educational Powerpoint presentation designed to help students deepen their understanding of the plant life found at Ivy Creek, while learning about the role trees play in our everyday lives and in the overall health of our environment.

Led by a VMNH Educator, the trees program integrates life cycles, classification, and basic identification skills into an entertaining program that addresses the following Virginia SOLs:
K.1, K.2, K.4, K.6, K.8;
1.1, 1.4, 1.7, 1.8;
2.1, 2.4, 2.5, 2.7, 2.8;
3.1, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.10;
4.4, 4.5, 4.8;
5.5, 5.6

In the spring VMNH offers “Birds and their Habitat,” which is designed to help students sharpen their observational skills, increase their knowledge of the birds found at Ivy Creek, and the dynamic interaction of birds with plants, insects, and their environment.
Led by a VMNH Educator, the bird habitat program integrates life cycles, classification, and basic identification skills into an entertaining program that addresses the following Virginia SOLs.
K.2, K.6, K.8, K.9;
1.4, 1.5, 1.7;
